Unlocking the Blackjack SIM Card
So you want to unlock your Samsung Blackjack? Unlocking your Blackjack cell phone will give the ability to put the SIM card from any carrier in it so you can use on their network. This will let you use the incredible Blackjack on Sprint if you want too. Now you can go overseas and use a pay as you go SIM from a local carrier. Cool right?
I know my earlier post on “How to Perform an Application Unlock on the Blackjack” caused some confusion because some of you thought I was talking about a SIM unlock. I’m hoping this information helps.
How to Unlock Your Blackjack:
- First you’ll need to get your Network Control Key. The Network Control Key is a 8 digits unlock code. There are two paths to get your NCK. You can either call AT&T or ask for it. You may have to ask them to put you through to their tech department. If you’ve never signed up for AT&T’s Service they may not give the code because your not a customer. The other way to get the code is to contact a cell phone unlocking service. They usually charge around $20 to get this code for you.
- Once you get the Network Control Key power off the phone.
- Remove the SIM card.
- Power on the phone back on.
- Enter #7465625*638*
- Enter Network Control Key.
- Press “OK” Soft key, not the Send or OK hard key.
- Power off the phone.
- Reinsert the new SIM card.
Based on the response from people that have tried this I assume it works. I have no need to unlock my phone because I live in the States and I enjoy using AT&T as my services provider. So please let me know if this does not work on either the original Samsung Blackjack or the Blackjack II. Good luck!

For my BJII, I had to get a T-Mobile sim card and put it in to got it to unlock, and this was the AT&T tech’s last resort. only 5 tries before you get locked out, be careful.

Yes, the instructions work. I called AT&T and they were very helpful.. the second time. The first girl I spoke to spoke at 200mph and just wasn’t interested in helping me, just wanted to start a ‘file’ and other complicated stuff. So, I called back the following day.. spoke with a very helpful lady that got me the unlock code within minutes.
So, my advise… keep trying, you’ll get someone ‘human’ eventually. Good luck

Cory,
I recently ended up with a BlackJack i607 (AT&T) through my sisters ex (though not a fun story, it is a hell of a phone), and as I will be traveling to Mexico, I need it to be unlocked. I have inserted a telcel SIM (from Mexico) and the phone turns on just fine and I can operate it equally well, so, am I unlocked or not?

Hey I tried calling the AT&T but they ask sooo much questions…. n i just wanted to ask them for one simple thing… n i tried using my friend’s number but I don’t have his dad SSN… so I’m hoping someone call and ask for me ? and e-mail it to me ?
my IMEI is : 355460010627187
and my e-mail is imakevil@yahoo.com
Thanks if you could. and I would much appreciate it.

This is silly, The whole IDEA about unlocking the simcard is to do it without the carrier interaction. Especially iof u are not a customer. Per your instructions, you cannot do it without carrier and the carrier will give you exact instructions~~so whats the point in your blog here?

Put in my non-AT&T but active SIM card in and put the unlock code in. Worked like a charm. Here is the site that helped me: http://www.gsmphonesource.com/unin.html

I purchased a BJ (i607) on ebay. I’m overseas and not in USA. Since my BJ isn’t unlocked I called AT&T tday and they need to know the 10 digit wireless account number so that they can call up the history on the phone to see if the phone is over 6 months old.
When i said I do not have this, the lady said she cannot proceed without it. I can easily get this unlocked for a fee but since I have heard AT&T does this for free, was wondering how I can go about getting this sorted. any ideas please. thank you.

I called att and asked for the network control key. Of course they asked why and I said that my contract was up and I am able, by law, to unlock my phone. The lady knew I was right and asked a few people what software to load up, asked me for my IMEI and gave me the key. Jusk ask politely and let them know you know the laws

I’m going to be honest, me & friend found a BlackJack II on school campus. We went through the process of lost & found and no one claimed it after several weeks, so now the phone is mine. Unfortunately the device is locked and needs a specific password to unlock it. It gets to the point it will ask type in “a1b2c3″ and it’s suppose to unlock. It doesn’t, it then asks for the password again. What can I do to make this phone work? It’s very frustrating, & i’d love to be able to use this phone.
Sharon on December 15th, 2008
Kayla & Others,
My former brother-in-law gave me his Blackjack when he “upgraded”. I do not have his phone # associated with the phone or anything. Found the IMEI number (instructions here: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-IMEI-Number-on-a-Mobile-Phone) and then AT&T’s tech number (1-800-331-0500 – ask for tech support and no you don’t have a number associated with this account) and called. When tech support came on, I told them my BIL gave me his old phone (he asked for the model) and said his contract was up so I could call and unlock the phone. He asked for the IMEI number, which I provided (15-digit number). In just seconds he gave me the unlock code (8 digits). That’s all the information I had to provide. I followed Cory’s instructions to the letter and received a message that the phone was successfully unlocked.
Total time…maybe 2 minutes tops. HTH!
Kayla – Have you tried taking the battery out? Alternatively, maybe if you got the IMEI number from the battery compartment as suggested in the link I referenced, maybe Tech Support could reset the phone, thus releasing the keypad lock/password for you. ??? worth a couple minutes phone call…

I wanted to use my Blackjack with Sprint. I have already unlocked my At&t Blackjack, then I called Sprint and they said that I can not do it since they are on CDMA network and At&t are GSM network.
Is there a way that I can use my Blackjack with Sprint?
Thanks.
jack on January 1st, 2009
Sorry soulfly8, AT&T and Sprint use completely different networking technologies (GSM vs CMDA); I believe that this means that there is no way to use your Blackjack with Sprint.

Note: Tell the AT&T representative that you will be going out of the country and plan on using another cell service.. this way they won’t suspect that you actually just want their phone and another service.

Woohoo! I called Cingular/AT&T technical support and told them I bought a used cell phone at a fleamarket and that I am needing an unlock code to use it. They wanted to know if I am a customer, I said no, and they still helped me. She needed the code from inside the battery compartment and then generated the unlock code for me. She also gave me 3 different ways to try entering it. The only way that really worked was putting the code in the prompt that appeared when I put in my SIM card. Then I had to press * when prompted. PRESTO! I did have to do some more research to find out how to set up the TMobile internet, but it wasn’t that bad. Yippee, I’m all Blackjack now.

The instructions at the top of this page worked fine. Only trouble I had was getting AT&T to give me the unlock code. The agent was constantly putting me on hold, then said I had to give an email address so the code request could be entered into the system. I told her I wanted the code over the phone, and after asking to speak to her supervisor, she eventually gave me the code and the instructions.
Bodyroc on March 27th, 2009
I have several AT&T blackjacks and have changed all of them to another carrier. All blackjacks have the very same code. Not like blackberry where every phone has a different code. Her’s how to unlock AT&T Samsung Blackjack.
# Once you get the Network Control Key power off the phone.
1. Remove the SIM card.
2. Power on the phone back on.
3. Enter #7465625*638*
4. 05075158 AT&T Network Control Key Code.
5. Press “OK” Soft key, not the Send or OK hard key.
6. Power off the phone.
7. Reinsert the new SIM card.
8. Power on and your all set.
You only get 5 chances to get it right or your phone will be permanently locked with AT&T.
fourakind on March 31st, 2009
Try this for the i617 / Blackjack II
AT&T instruction that they email me were wrong, this worked.
Power on with incorrect sim, and when asked to enter network pin use supplied unlock code
No need to hold other keys while entering code
Anonymous on March 31st, 2009
has anyone used the above network control key and verified that it is correct?
steve f. on April 1st, 2009
For one thing, it seems that everyone says to remove the SIM card. According to Samsung, you leave the card IN the phone to unlock it. I tried 3 times (without SIM) and it finally worked when I did it Samsungs way.
The NCK is imei specific. They need the imei from your phone to get the NCK code. This must come from your service provider.
The “soft key” in question is the square button to the left of the jog wheel. NOT the main (round) OK button in the middle.
I have no idea where some of this info comes from, but dudes c’mon, you only get 5 tries before your phone “bricks” or permanently locks to one provider, So PLEASE try and give out the correct info. If anyone needs to know the real skinny on this, call samsungs’ tech support. They are pretty good.
steve f. on April 1st, 2009
BodyRoc, I have no clue what you unlocked, but if you did it the way you describe, it surely wasn’t the SIM unlock. And whoever told you that all NCK codes are the same for all ATT phones flat out did not know thier *ss from a hole in the ground. Each IEMI number has a unique 8 digit NCK. I just yesterday unlocked my i617, and my daughters i607. I have unlocked 4 other BJII phones for myself and friends. Believe me, without the SIM card in, you’ll get a SIM unlock error (thus wasting each successive try)
You’ll want to tell ATT (or whom ever) that you paid full boat retail for the phone (no contract extention discount)and they will HAPPILY give you the number. Have the IEMI number from the back of the phone ready. It’s under the battery.
yanggemini on April 16th, 2009
Hey Body Roc,
I tried your instruction. At first with sim card removed. then I got a network failure message. Then I tried again with sim card inserted, entered the Network control key and it said “you entered Incorrect MCC/MNC”, does it mean this network key was used?

SHARON – THANK YOU!
I called once and the lady said I needed to verify that the BJ was activated with them before so that didn’t work. (My friend gave me her brothers BJ b/c well I needed it. Trying to use w/ T-mobile.)
So I was discouraged and then I called again and a nice, cheery Indian man (I think) helped me and gave me the unlock number and talked me through it (which is the same as what everyone has been saying to do). If you have common sense, you can do it too. I’m so glad this worked!
THANKS!

Dee,
I had the same problem. I called Samsung at 1888-987-4357. They took my IMEI no. from the back of the battery and registered the phone. After that they gave me following instructions:
1. Power off the Samsung Blackjack 2 and take the SIM out.
2. Put the battery in and while phone is powered off, press the TOP (UP) portion of rotary jog dial and power button TOGETHER. Make sure you press the jog dial button first.
3. You’d be prompted for format. Press 1 now.
4. Press ‘y’ to confirm.
You phone is resetting now and please note, it would erase everything on the phone.
Now put the SIM card in and your phone should be unlocked. Please call Samsung if above does not work.
