So you want to unlock your Samsung Blackjack? Unlocking your Blackjack cell phone will give the ability to put the SIM card from any carrier in it so you can use on their network. This will let you use the incredible Blackjack on Sprint if you want too. Now you can go overseas and use a pay as you go SIM from a local carrier. Cool right?
I know my earlier post on “How to Perform an Application Unlock on the Blackjack” caused some confusion because some of you thought I was talking about a SIM unlock. I’m hoping this information helps.
How to Unlock Your Blackjack:
- First you’ll need to get your Network Control Key. The Network Control Key is a 8 digits unlock code. There are two paths to get your NCK. You can either call AT&T or ask for it. You may have to ask them to put you through to their tech department. If you’ve never signed up for AT&T’s Service they may not give the code because your not a customer. The other way to get the code is to contact a cell phone unlocking service. They usually charge around $20 to get this code for you.
- Once you get the Network Control Key power off the phone.
- Remove the SIM card.
- Power on the phone back on.
- Enter #7465625*638*
- Enter Network Control Key.
- Press “OK” Soft key, not the Send or OK hard key.
- Power off the phone.
- Reinsert the new SIM card.
Based on the response from people that have tried this I assume it works. I have no need to unlock my phone because I live in the States and I enjoy using AT&T as my services provider. So please let me know if this does not work on either the original Samsung Blackjack or the Blackjack II. Good luck!

I have several AT&T blackjacks and have changed all of them to another carrier. All blackjacks have the very same code. Not like blackberry where every phone has a different code. Her’s how to unlock AT&T Samsung Blackjack.
# Once you get the Network Control Key power off the phone.
1. Remove the SIM card.
2. Power on the phone back on.
3. Enter #7465625*638*
4. 05075158 AT&T Network Control Key Code.
5. Press “OK” Soft key, not the Send or OK hard key.
6. Power off the phone.
7. Reinsert the new SIM card.
8. Power on and your all set.
You only get 5 chances to get it right or your phone will be permanently locked with AT&T.
That code did not work!
Try this for the i617 / Blackjack II
AT&T instruction that they email me were wrong, this worked.
Power on with incorrect sim, and when asked to enter network pin use supplied unlock code
No need to hold other keys while entering code
has anyone used the above network control key and verified that it is correct?
For one thing, it seems that everyone says to remove the SIM card. According to Samsung, you leave the card IN the phone to unlock it. I tried 3 times (without SIM) and it finally worked when I did it Samsungs way.
The NCK is imei specific. They need the imei from your phone to get the NCK code. This must come from your service provider.
The “soft key” in question is the square button to the left of the jog wheel. NOT the main (round) OK button in the middle.
I have no idea where some of this info comes from, but dudes c’mon, you only get 5 tries before your phone “bricks” or permanently locks to one provider, So PLEASE try and give out the correct info. If anyone needs to know the real skinny on this, call samsungs’ tech support. They are pretty good.
I have a samsung sgh-i617 how do I go from at&t to t-mobile?
BodyRoc, I have no clue what you unlocked, but if you did it the way you describe, it surely wasn’t the SIM unlock. And whoever told you that all NCK codes are the same for all ATT phones flat out did not know thier *ss from a hole in the ground. Each IEMI number has a unique 8 digit NCK. I just yesterday unlocked my i617, and my daughters i607. I have unlocked 4 other BJII phones for myself and friends. Believe me, without the SIM card in, you’ll get a SIM unlock error (thus wasting each successive try)
You’ll want to tell ATT (or whom ever) that you paid full boat retail for the phone (no contract extention discount)and they will HAPPILY give you the number. Have the IEMI number from the back of the phone ready. It’s under the battery.
Hey Body Roc,
I tried your instruction. At first with sim card removed. then I got a network failure message. Then I tried again with sim card inserted, entered the Network control key and it said “you entered Incorrect MCC/MNC”, does it mean this network key was used?

Could someone help me? I bought a BJ2 off craigslist and he said it was unlocked but it isn’t. I called At&t and they gave me an unlock code and I followed their instructions but get a message “Sim failed” please help its my only phone and I have a tmobile sim. email foundagain2006@yahoo.com
i tried talking to att tech support and no one knew what they were talking about. eventualy i got a different unlock code that worked
1. put the sim you want to use in the BJ2.
2. you will get a message about unloocking the phone.
3. enter the unlock code
4. you will get another message about identifying you current network or something.
5. just hit the end key and your BJ2 is unlocked and ready to use.
i just follow all the instructions from this forum it does work from my Blackjack II, now my smart phone blackjack2 is totally unlocked. here’s what i do, turn off the phone with sim card and turn it back on with sim card and Enter #7465625*638* after that enter the network control key code and your almost done! good luck.
SHARON – THANK YOU!
I called once and the lady said I needed to verify that the BJ was activated with them before so that didn’t work. (My friend gave me her brothers BJ b/c well I needed it. Trying to use w/ T-mobile.)
So I was discouraged and then I called again and a nice, cheery Indian man (I think) helped me and gave me the unlock number and talked me through it (which is the same as what everyone has been saying to do). If you have common sense, you can do it too. I’m so glad this worked!
THANKS!
Dee,
I had the same problem. I called Samsung at 1888-987-4357. They took my IMEI no. from the back of the battery and registered the phone. After that they gave me following instructions:
1. Power off the Samsung Blackjack 2 and take the SIM out.
2. Put the battery in and while phone is powered off, press the TOP (UP) portion of rotary jog dial and power button TOGETHER. Make sure you press the jog dial button first.
3. You’d be prompted for format. Press 1 now.
4. Press ‘y’ to confirm.
You phone is resetting now and please note, it would erase everything on the phone.
Now put the SIM card in and your phone should be unlocked. Please call Samsung if above does not work.
Lots of rude, demanding replies.. Thanks for the blog! I found it informative.
Dee leave the sim in!
man plz i want it for free … nck plz help

I read somewhere that I need to have the original SIM to unlock the phone, is this true? These instructions say to remove the SIM?
I actually don’t have the AT&T SIM anymore anyway, so I want to make sure I’m doing it right before I attempt to unlock it (since you only get 5 tries, right?)
people, read the damn instructions
I called Samsung and they told me to call AT&T to get the codes.
To get the unlock code for free contact your Cell carrier. (Buy law they must give it to you)I called and got mine from AT&T. It worked, Now I have a question, after inserting a new sim it now asked for a pin. Any Idea’s?
can sum one please just post the most common unlock code? If its that serious i have more then enough adult site passwords that i can share with all you peaple i just want to use my blackjack II !!!
I bought the BlackJack II from an Ebay seller who said it was unlocked. It wasn’t. I read this blog and decided to just call ATT and tell them exactly what happened. I even told them I was a T-mobile customer. They were more than helpful.
Here are some tips:
Call 1-800-331-0500
Follow the instructions to talk to a Technical Support Agent. This is probably your best bet considering they don’t care to make a sale. They will walk you through the rest. Super easy!!
I upgraded to an iPhons and I have the original BKII SIM but it is not active. I tried unlocking with it in, no go. I tried with my iPhone SIM (ATT active) and again, no go. Any thoughts?
I just put in 12345678 and it worked

Have atnt bought phone on E bay put in my atnt SIM and it says. This phone can only be used with a specific SIM, Enter the unlock code on insert an approved SIM.
I’ve called AT&T for over 1.5 years to get the unlock code. They tell me the same thing every time…you’re not a customer so we can’t give it to you. You’d think since I live in China some kid on the street could do it with his eyes closed but it’s not the case.
I just read your comment. I bought my phone from craigslist used it for about 2-3 months, now I get the same thing you were getting. What did you do to correct the problem? I went to at&t store they couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

Can you help with the NCK Imei 35724601576585/0 03
Called AT&T today to get a Blackjack II unlocked. Their instructions did not match the ones provided here (AT&T instructions called for an extra entering of the NCK). These instructions were correct, but the phone would display “SIM Failure Error Happened.” I went ahead and repeated all instructions with an old, inactive AT&T prepaid SIM, and it worked perfectly!
Also, on my first call to AT&T, they stated that their policy is to not give unlock codes for international calling (trying to keep that revenue for themselves, I suppose). It worked better when I called later and explained that the phone was an old one given to me by a relative (and that was the truth)! The codes vary based on the IMEI, so have that ready when you call. Good luck!
To clarify on the previous post, the directions listed on this site were correct, NOT the ones from AT&T. Thanks for posting!
Hello i was wondering if you could help. . I was given a black jack 2 phone from a friend and i do have at&t prepaid service and when i put my sim card in it says that the sim card is invalid or there is no sim card in the phone.. I have used my sim card in other phones and it works is there any way you can help?
so i have a blackjack 2 and im studying abroad in spain and i bought a vodaphone but i hate it and i want to unlock my normal phone (blackjack2), i have AT&T back home. HELP thanks.
Hi can somebody hel me pls. i got a sunmsungSHG-I607 i need to unlock somebody have the code?
My friend bought me samsung from the state and its Samsung A897 Mythic.I want to be able to unlock it so i will be very glad to know if any one here can help me get it working.please i read here that you only have 5 times so i only wnat the correct once please.i have tried to talk with the AT&T people they will not help me because am not in the state.my email is sapale100@yahoo.com
i did what you said and jack 1 says
“this phone can only be used with a specific sim. enter the unlock code or insert an approved sim.”
when i take out the sim this is what it says
“invalid or missing sim card. you can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it.”
the phone does not allow you to input the whole number #74….*..
the # and the * does not show up, and it only lets you input 8 digits.
what the hell am i doing wrong
the best thing to do is to get a t mobile sim in the phone and turn it on! then when it asks for the code put in #746625*638* followed by the nck which is different for every phone then put that after the other code and hit ok
your good to go from there
i need a nck for samsung blackjack i607
These instructions work on a Blackjack II…Just unlocked one with the NCK code that ATT gave me.
Corrected: For the Blackjack II…you need to leave the SIM in the unit…but the code sequence works great.
regarding blackjack 2, i was on the phone with 2 ATT CSR b/c I could not unlock the phone for the life of me. as instructed by them, i confirmed that my SIM card was out. numerous times it failed and failed. i got fed up with them and searched online.
NOTE TO EVERYONE: LEAVE THE SIM CARD IN WHEN YOU UNLOCK WITH YOUR 8 DIGIT CODE.
booya.
For the blackjack II I617 you will need a sim not an ATT sim but a sim in the phone for the unlock process.
I called ATT 1-800-331-0500 and give them the IMEI number of the phone.
They give me the unlock code which was eight number.
I typed in #7465625*638* and entered the eight code number the ATT rep give me and that was it. The phone is now unlocked.
Thank you all that provide the helpful advice. I hope this helps someone.
so… Ive been trying this too. after checking many blogs and posts I think I see the missing detail… I found it on this blog…. it reads…
Just found a thread on AT&T about unlocking the BJ II. It says that the problem with the instructions you were sent is that one of the steps says that you should remove the SIM card.
The post says that that is the error – follow the instructions exactly as they are BUT DON’T REMOVE THE SIM CARD.
Here’s the exact post:
I just had an issue with using an AT&T provided (via international customer support) subsidy unlock code on the BJ2. The intructions provided via email or over the phone tell you to remove the SIM card and follow the instructions. This does NOT work, and results in a SIM Failure message. After about an hour on the phone through AT&T and then into Samsung technical support level 2, I found out that the instructions should be followed as provided, but with the AT&T SIM installed. The tech support person at Samsung says that he has asked AT&T to change the instructions a number of times, but it appears that they have not been changed. He said that sometimes it just takes a while to get through the system…………
SO THE KICKER… wITH THE at&t SIM INSTALLED….MAN..I hope this works
